There are some dogs in shelters that unfortunately have to wait longer to find their forever homes, to poor animals this could be tiring getting overlooked over and over again.
So just imagine how you would feel if you were the last animal left in the shelter.
Sweet dog Capone is a Staffordshire terrier mix, who spent years waiting at the Ionia County Animal Shelter in Michigan.
“We didn’t expect it to take this long to find someone that would open up their hearts to him,” shelter volunteer Sammie Vincent told FOX 17.
At one point he got adopted but that didn’t last and the family brought him back after one year and that broke the poor’s animal’s heart.
“He lost quite a bit of weight as he just did not have the appetite he did in his home,” shelter director Carly Quinn told The Dodo. “It was very hard to get him to eat. We had to coax him daily with treats and assorted wet foods.”
“He was heartbroken.”
After getting back at the shelter his luck didn’t get better, he got overlooked every time.
What makes this even more sad is that at one point he was the only dog left in the shelter without a home.
“All the kennels were empty, except for sweet, quiet, kind Capone,” Carly recalled.
Capone turned 7 by early 2019, and still hasn’t found his forever home.
But shelter refused to give up and doubled their efforts in order to find him a suitable home.
They decided to share on Facebook the dog’s sad story hoping someone will welcome him inside, thankfully the post was seen by just the right people.
Ashlee Long and her husband John saw the dog and they fell in love immediately. “I just fell in love with his face right then,” Ashlee told FOX 17. “I didn’t know how he was the only dog left.”
They came to visit the shelter and hit it off immediately, it was clear that Capone was more than ready to go home.
“He just came up to us,” Ashlee said. “We both just kinda knelt down with our hands out for him, and he just came right up to us and started snuggling, wagging his tail, we just knew we had to take him.”
They took sweet furry home and he gave a warm, big smile because he knew he finally had a family.
The shelter friends knew this was an amazing agreement and shed tears of joy seeing the dog finding his happiness.
“It was truly a tearjerker,” Carly told The Dodo.
These kinds of stories are the best stories.
